Everything you need to know about colon hydrotherapy before you book your first session.
No, it should not be painful. Occasionally during the session you may feel a sensation similar to needing the toilet - mild pressure or a feeling of cramping in your abdomen. As you push the water and waste out, this feeling passes quickly.
Your therapist will coach you throughout on how to take the water in comfortably and gently release it. After the session, most people feel lighter in the abdomen and refreshed all over.
Your privacy is our first priority. Our colon hydrotherapy rooms are designed to give you a completely private, relaxing experience. You are covered from the waist down for the entire session.
The LIBBE open system we use is designed specifically for dignity and privacy - you self-insert the small speculum and manage the process yourself in your own private room. Your therapist monitors from outside the room unless you need assistance. Professional confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Yes. Our rooms and equipment are thoroughly cleaned after every session. We use only single-use disposable supplies - nothing is reused between clients. Our centres are checked and licensed by local council.
We use TGA-registered LIBBE devices with carbon filtration and UV light purification to ensure the water quality used in every session meets the highest standards.
No special preparation is required, and you can come for a session without any specific preparation. However, a few simple steps will make your experience more comfortable and effective:
On the day, avoid eating for 2 hours before your session. Eat lightly - soups, steamed vegetables, smoothies, vegetable juices and salads are ideal. Stay well hydrated throughout the day.
In the days before, minimising caffeine, alcohol, sugar, meat, bread, soft drinks and heavy processed foods will help your body respond better to treatment.
Your therapist will provide you with an electrolyte drink and a probiotic to take immediately after your session to replenish beneficial bacteria.
Rest for up to 30 minutes before leaving - many clients choose to use our infrared sauna after their colonic, which we recommend to continue the detox process and aid relaxation. Eat light, easy-to-digest foods for the rest of the day. Avoid raw vegetables for 24 hours to allow your gut to settle.
Your colon is approximately as long as you are tall - there is a lot of area to cleanse. It is not possible to thoroughly cleanse the entire colon in a single session, which is why most people do a series.
Your therapist will help you design a personal cleanse program that complements your health goals. Typically, clients start with 3-6 sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart, then maintain gut health with monthly or quarterly sessions.
Colon hydrotherapy is not a cure-all, but it is widely used to support the body with a range of symptoms. Reported benefits include: improved immunity, relief from IBS and constipation, improvement in skin conditions such as acne, relief from headaches and fatigue, and improved lymphatic function.
By supporting the colon to eliminate more efficiently, colon hydrotherapy reduces the toxic burden on the liver and other organs of elimination, helping the whole body function better. Your therapist will discuss your specific health goals at your first appointment.
LIBBE stands for Lower Intestinal Bottom Bowel Evacuation. It is an open-system colon hydrotherapy device registered with Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
Unlike closed systems used at most clinics, the open system gives you complete privacy and control. You self-insert the small rectal nozzle and manage the process yourself in the privacy of your own room, with your therapist monitoring from outside. Water passes in and out continuously, gently flushing the colon.
The LIBBE device uses carbon filtration and UV light purification to ensure the water quality in every session. We are the only LIBBE-certified trainers in Australia, which means we are authorised to train other practitioners in the use of this system.
A colonoscopy is a medical diagnostic procedure performed by a doctor to visually examine the inside of the colon. It is typically used to screen for cancer, polyps, or other conditions. It requires a specific preparation protocol and sedation.
Colon hydrotherapy is a wellness treatment - the infusion of purified, temperature-regulated water into the colon to hydrate and support the removal of accumulated waste. They serve entirely different purposes and are not interchangeable.
No. An enema only cleanses the very lower portion of the colon - the rectum and sigmoid colon. Colon hydrotherapy works with the entire length of the large intestine.
Repeated use of laxatives can lead to irritation and weakening of the colon wall and may become habit-forming. Colon hydrotherapy uses only purified, temperature-regulated water and is administered by a certified practitioner, making it a much gentler and more thorough approach.
Your first visit includes a full consultation, your colonic session, a 30-minute infrared sauna and a probiotic drink.
